The product Bubble Wrap was created in 1957 by two engineers, Alfred W. Fielding and Marc Chavannes. It was invented as a wall covering by laminating two plastic sheets with air bubbles between them. It never caught on, but the inventors saw how light weight it was and noticed the great insulation properties of the the Bubble Wrap. So it was used as greenhouse insulation which then turned into a packing material. The two engineers, Fielding and Chavannes, founded Sealed Air Corporation in 1960 with their main product being the Bubble Wrap. The Bubble wrap protects the package, cuts cost on the package because of the low amount of material being used, and also reducing the package weight and size. Sealed Air Corporation had IBM as their first client since IBM was transporting their IBM 1401 computers using the Bubble Wrap for protection. Usually, there aren’t any ethical concerns associated with using products that aren’t meant for some activity or use other than advertised. For example, many people use WD-40 to clear foggy/yellowed headlights instead of using it as a rust cleaner.
